Inner Peace – LETTING GO of the Past & Future

Past and future Have No Reality of their Own – Unknown

Letting go of the past is essential if we wish to experience peace and contentment in the moment. What happened or what may happen exist only as ideas in our head. As our attention can only be in one place at a time, when we are lost in thinking of the past, we miss the moment, current reality and miss out the simple contentment that is available to us right now. We spend our present days playing mental movies of the past and future in our heads. And in doing so, we miss the gift of happiness that the present moment contains. Inner Peace – A State of Mind

Inner Peace – A State of Mind
Inner Peace – A State of Mind

In modern age, our understanding and control of the external world have increased considerably. We have witnessed remarkable material progress, but there has not been a corresponding increase in human happiness. There is no less suffering in the world today, and there are no fewer problems. Indeed, it could be said that there are now more problems and greater unhappiness than ever before.

When things go wrong in our life and we encounter difficult situations we tend to regard the situation itself as the problem, but in reality whatever problems we experience come from the mind. If we were to respond to difficulties with a positive or peaceful mind they would not be problems for us; indeed we may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for growth and development. Problems arise only if we respond to situations with a negative state of mind. Therefore, if we want to transform our life and be free from problems we must learn to transform our mind. Sufferings, problems, worries, unhappiness, and pain all exist within our mind; they are all unpleasant feelings, which are part of the mind. Through controlling, purifying, pacifying our mind, we can stop them once and for all. Continue reading “Inner Peace – A State of Mind”

My Encounter with Inner peace

My Encounter with Inner peace
My Encounter with Inner peace

“Peace of mind is not the absence of conflict from life, but the ability to cope with it.” ~Unknown

Like many people, I lived my life for a lot of years failing to understand inner peace is a choice. I am not sure what I thought. Perhaps I didn’t believe anyone could feel a lasting peace inside. I did know that my own feelings of peace have been always transitory.

There were many ups and downs in my life, too many claims on my time and too many difficult situations to be dealt with. I think I actually believed inner peace could only be achieved by monks and saints, or anyone living a reclusive life who didn’t have to deal with everyday struggles. Yin and Yang - Balance in Relationships

Yin and Yang – Balance in Relationships

Yin and Yang - Balance in Relationships
Yin and Yang – Balance in Relationships

People say you should be with somebody who is similar to yours. People also say opposites attract. While both can be good to certain people I have found that a relationship that has the yin yang components is beautiful. Two people cannot think alike. Life affects each person a different way. You could have ten people in the same room all who have had identical life experiences and each of them feels a different way. Sure, they can relate, but all do not think alike. The way I see, if you have someone who is almost completely like you at some point in time there is no balance. When you have what I call a yin yang relationship, you can have harmony. I have discovered that the only reason one relationship can work is because they are able to complement each other. MAKING ROOM TO DEVELOP

When clouds cover the sky, we cannot see the pure nature of space. Likewise, when conceptual thoughts occupy the mind, we cannot see the pure nature of the mind. To see whether this is true, we can meditate so that the mind becomes relaxed and peaceful, and then there is room to develop compassion, love, and bodhicitta. But when our mind is occupied by conceptual thoughts and negative thoughts, there is no space to develop good qualities. Our mind becomes full of suffering and we cannot disentangle ourselves from confusion.

When our mind emphasizes positive, calming, and relaxing thoughts, it leaves no space for negative thoughts to arise. Then we can maintain a peaceful, harmonious mind regardless of external conditions. This becomes a matter of how much we habituate ourselves to the Dharma teachings.

Truth – NON-DUALITY in Life

Truth occupies a very important position in the Buddha’s teaching. The Four Noble Truths are the hub of the wheel of the Dhamma. Truth (//sacca//) is one of the ten perfections to be cultivated in order to purify oneself.

Truth can have different aspects. If we want to find an end to suffering, we have to find truth at its deepest level. The moral precepts which include “not lying” are a basic training without which one can’t lead a spiritual life.

Inner Thoughts and Outward Results

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him, as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the carriage. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that neverleaves him.”
